History and Inspiration
Loving Humanity Wave recognizes that seventy five years ago, people began working to STOP Deliberate Cruelty and STOP Systemic Domination. Forever, some people in the United States and all over the globe have been committed to deliberately creating a better world. After the horrors of WW I and WW II the United States joined 48 other members of the United Nations in adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world. The declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. It is now endorsed by all 193 member nations and translated into over 500 languages. It sets out for the first time the desire that fundamental human rights be universally protected.
Costa Rica decided to abolish its military in 1948 as a testament to its commitment to peace, democracy and human rights. The money that would have gone to weapons went to care for people and earth. It is no surprise that Earth University was founded in Costa Rica in 1990 and that the Earth Charter Principles are a vibrant and living part of the curriculum. Earth University’s graduates are active in regeneration efforts in more than 26 countries. The Earth Charter Principles are like motherhood and apple pie for planet earth.
The Earth Charter Principles led to the adoption of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals optimistic goals for the world.
The Charter for Compassion is also a sign of a new way to govern. Any organization can adopt the Charter for Compassion. Throughout the world, more than 300 individual cities have become Compassionate Cities. In every case, individuals took positive action to make this happen. In Florida, compassionate cities include Orlando, St. Petersburg, and St. Augustine.
Many people continue to create a vision of a just and sustainable world. So many people have been doing amazing work for so many years. We learned a long time ago that you cannot accomplish this alone, it really does require a village. Lots of villages. Lots of organizations, networking, working together, doing important work, loving humanity.
We have kindred spirits joining us globally, and we are building our resource based website that will include links to these organizations and to important documents.
Our culture has the choice of two highways, one that is governed by power and wealth and one that is governed by harmony and balance.
At this time, the USA appears to be on the power and wealth highway, where companies and individuals fight to achieve domination by destroying people and our planet. This is where we are now, with chaos, corruption and control occurring every day.
We believe that more people want to be on the other Highway, the one that is governed by harmony and balance and that operates with respect and love for nature that is aimed at achieving equality for all people and planet earth.
We envision all humanity holding hands, doing the work that is sustainable, good for people, the economy, and the environment. You and your organization are invited to be part of the Loving Humanity Wave.
